Women's Premier League (WPL) Winner History

After the 2017 Women’s World Cup, the idea of women’s IPL was suggested. In 2018, the idea was introduced as a single match before the men’s tournament. The teams participating in that match were known as IPL Trailblazers and IPL Supernovas. In 2019, another team called IPL Velocity was added. In 2020, the women’s tournament, along with the men’s tournament, was postponed. It was later on held in Sharjah. In 2021, the women’s tournament was cancelled due to COVID. In March 2022, the BCCI declared that they will start the women's IPL in 2024. Former BCCI president Mr. Sourav Ganguly wanted 10 teams for WPL. However, later on five teams came forward. In 2022, the women’s T20 Challenge took place in the month of May and this was eventually dubbed as Women’s Premier League (WPL).

The DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai hosted the Women's Premier League Final on March 26, 2023. This Day/Night Twenty20 match determined the champion for the 2023 season. Mumbai Indians emerged victorious, clinching both the match and the title by defeating Delhi Capitals with a seven-wicket triumph.
