Teams Collection
There are a total of 8 teams in the T20 World Cup.
Afghanistan Cricket Team
Afghanistan Cricket team made its debut in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. Afghanistan qualified for the ICC World Cup Qualifier 2018 and defeated West Indies in the qualifier finals. The 2019 World Cup was the 2nd World Cup for which Afghanistan qualified under the captaincy of Asgar Afghan. Team Afghanistan will play their first match on 22 October 2022 against England under the captainship of Rashid Khan.
The Afghanistan Cricket team is placed in Group 1 in the Super 12 stage, and performing teams, England, Australia, New Zealand, and the other two teams, will qualify from Round 1. This will be the 6th appearance for the Afghan team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, hosted in Australia.
Australia Cricket Team
Who could forget the knocking win that Australia registered as the winner of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021! Mitchell Marsh and David Warner hit half-centuries to chase down 173 with ease at the Dubai International Stadium. It was the highest score by a team in a Men's T20 World Cup Final. Thus, the jitters of the ICC T20 Men's World Cup 2022 remain as billion Australians expect the home team to win the coveted silverware again, this 8th season of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. In the Super 12, hosts Australia is in Group 1 with world number one England, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and the winner of Group A and the runner-up in Group B from the First Round.
England Cricket Team
England has a win percentage of 48% in the T20 World Cup, and they already have a T20 title to their name. Over the years, England has improved as a limited-overs side, winning the 2019 ODI World Cup. They also made it to the final of the World T20 2016. The England team is led by Eoin Morgan, while Jos Buttler is his deputy.
New Zealand Cricket Team
Last year’s runner-up, New Zealand, will start the Super 12s with a match against the defending champions Australia on October 22, at the Sydney Cricket Ground. It remains to see whether the New Zealand Cricket team has the required ‘zeal’ in them to chase tight scores and restrict the opposition team to its lowest scores.
Bangladesh Cricket Team
When the Bangladeshi cricket team played in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, they did not have an outing that they would like to remember. Bangladesh could only beat minnows like Papua New Guinea and Oman. As a result, Bangladesh crashed out from the Super 12s stage of the tournament in 2021.
So, when Bangladesh plays in the T20 World Cup 2022, they will certainly like to perform better than earlier. To qualify for the tournament’s knockout stage, Bangladesh will have to finish on top in the Super 12s stage of the event.
India Cricket Team
If there is a team with a point to prove in the T20 World Cup 2022, it is India. After winning the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 in England, India is yet to win an ICC cup. Its performance in white-ball cricket has not been up-to-the-mark. Moreover, India crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2021 after losing back-to-back matches to Pakistan and New Zealand.
Indian fans ask: Will Team India redeem itself in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022? Nowhere in recent history was it a bigger headache to pick an Indian team for an ICC tournament than now. It is predominantly due to the form of some current players.
Pakistan Cricket Team
There is no doubt that the Pakistani Cricket Team preparing for the T20 World Cup has loads of talent. That talent was for everyone to see when in the previous T20 World Cup, they beat India in their opening game and managed to reach the semi-finals.
Their fans expect them to do even better in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. While the Pakistani team may not be what it used to be in the 1990s, they still are a talented bunch in the T20 format, the shortest format of the game. Pakistan had also won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2009 after finishing as runner-up in 2007.
South Africa Cricket Team
Despite all the cricketing talent South Africa has had over the years, the Proteas have never won the T20 World Cup. Even though they had the likes of AB de Villiers, success in this tournament has eluded them.
Therefore, the South African fans can only hope that their team wins the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. It is worthwhile analysing whether the Proteas have it in them to lift the cup this time. The South Africa squad for the T2O World Cup has been going through a transition phase for a while now.
