The Bellerive Oval Stadium

Bellerive Oval Stadium, located in Bellerive in Hobart, is the headquarters of Tasmanian Cricket. Being the only venue in Tasmania for international cricket matches, Bellerive Oval cricket ground has hosted many high-profile games.

Even before a proper stadium was opened for Bellerive Oval in 1914, Football and Cricket were played on its site for a long time. The stadium got further prominence when the Tasmanian Cricket Association (TCA) relocated its headquarters to Bellerive Oval from the old TCA ground in the 1970s. In 1988, Bellerive Oval stadium hosted its first international game, a one-day-international (ODI) between Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Then, in 1989, Australia played a test match against Sri Lanka at the same venue.

Apart from being the headquarters of TCA, Bellerive Oval is also home to North Melbourne Football Club, an Australian Football League (AFL) team. Major redevelopment works were carried out in the stadium during 2000-02. The stadium has three main stands – the Southern Stand, the Members and Players pavilions. Apart from it, the stadium also has two smaller stands and a hill on the eastern boundary, which allow spectators to watch matches. As a result of an official sponsorship deal with the footwear brand Blundstone, Bellerive Oval is now officially called Blundstone Arena.

Did you know?

Bellerive Oval stadium was the venue of a test match between Australia and Pakistan in 1999, which showed the cricketing world what Adam Gilchrist was capable of. Pakistan set a stiff target of 369 runs in the game and was well ahead, as the Aussies kept losing wickets. Michael Slater, Mark Waugh, Steve Waugh, and Ricky Ponting got out cheaply. Then, Adam Gilchrist walked in to join Justin Langer. Gilchrist and Langer chased an impossible-seeming fourth-innings target. Gilchrist, in particular, was ruthless, as he kept hitting Pakistani bowlers all over the park.

Knowing the pitch condition for cricket betting is essential, and more so for a World Cup T20 tournament. Understanding the pitch history and the player’s performance can help you place bets on bowlers and batters accordingly.

Like we already said, the pitch at Bellerive Oval Cricket ground provides ample scope for batters to score big runs. Initially, when a game starts, bowlers may get some movement, but as a match progresses, the surface gets flatter, helping batters pile up runs. Of the three T20I matches that have taken place at this ground, the team batting first has won two games, while the team batting second has won only one match. Therefore, the probability is high that the team that wins the toss will prefer to bat first to exploit the batting-friendly conditions of its pitches.
