Shikhar Dhawan is India’s star opener. He is nicknamed Shikhar ‘Gabbar’ Dhawan for his powerful and aggressive batting skills. He is the captain of the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League and occasionally captains the Indian cricket team. Dhawan is the first batter to score back-to-back centuries in IPL. Dhawan has been the leading run-scorer for team India in the Champions Trophy of 2013, Cricket World Cup in 2015, and Champions Trophy of 2017. In the TATA IPL auction 2024, Shikhar Dhawan was purchased by Punjab Kings for Rs 8.25 crores. Dhawan has the rare accomplishment of playing more than 200 IPL matches. He is the second player to do this after Virat Kohli. In IPL 2023, Shikhar Dhawan replaced Mayank Agarwal as the captain of the Punjab Kings IPL team.

In 2008, Shikhar Dhawan was not a famous cricketer. Nevertheless, he earned an IPL contract with Delhi Daredevils. He was bought for Rs 12 lakh by a star-studded Delhi team. Dhawan played along with cricket legends Sehwag, Gambhir, De Villers, and Collingwood. He played 14 matches and scored 340 runs. He became the third-highest run-scorer.
In IPL 2009, Dhawan switched to Mumbai Indians. He played two dismal seasons for Mumbai Indians, where his average was 10 runs in IPL 2009 and in IPL 2010, he scored only 191 runs. He then moved to Deccan Chargers in 2011 for Rs 1.38 crore. He proved to be a consistent player in the three seasons he played for Deccan Chargers.
