Shardul Thakur Career Stats in IPL 2024
Although Shardul Thakur has shown his immense potential in domestic and international cricket, he’s yet to explode in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His not-so-glittering IPL career can be partly attributed to the fact that he bats down the order. In T20 matches, he rarely ever gets a chance to bat, which makes him more of a bowler.
As a bowler, Shardul showed his worth during his stint with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as he regularly picked wickets, helping his team win crucial matches. He delivered a memorable bowling performance against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2021’s final.
Chasing a target of 193, KKR was well poised at 88/0 after ten overs. Then, MS Dhoni brought Shardul into the attack, who took the key wickets of Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana, which started a batting collapse that led CSK to win the match.
Time and again, Shardul has shown that he can deliver when his team needs him. In IPL 2021, he finished as the fourth-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 21 scalps. That’s why Delhi Capitals (DC) paid a whopping Rs 10.75 crores for him at IPL 2022 auctions. He played 14 matches for Delhi Capitals during the season. In November 2022, he was traded to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in exchange of Aman Khan ahead of the IPL 2023 auctions. In IPL 2024, Shardul Thakur was purchased by Chennai Super Kings at Rs 4.00 crores.
