Marcus Stoinis Career Stats in IPL 2024

Marcus Stoinis is an Australian batting all-rounder who has been a familiar face in the national team since his debut in international cricket. A consistent performer in the domestic field, a powerful 170 against Tasmania in Australia's Sheffield Shield 2013-14 season, spiked the national selectors’ attention towards this incredible cricketer.

The following Sheffield Shield season saw Stoinis emerge as the highest run scorer, leading to his international debut. After his ODI and T20I debut in 2015, Stoinis’s international career was halted for a year and a half, although he maintained a solid record in the domestic field.

He staged a comeback back to the national team when he played his second ODI in 2017 against New Zealand team. In the very first match of that series, chasing 287 when the Aussies were reeling at 64 for 5, Marcus scored an unbelievable 146 off just 117 balls and almost led his team to victory. This was in addition, to the 3 wickets that he took with the ball earlier in the innings. Despite Australia’s defeat, he won the Man of the Match award for his performance.

Stoinis’s credentials as a cricketer further got a boost by being part of a victorious 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup winning and 2019 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup semi-finalist Australian team. Team Australia will be relying heavily on this versatile batter and handy medium-pace bowler in the impending ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Marcus Stoinis was introduced to Australia’s domestic cricket at the age of 19, followed by successful back-to-back Sheffield Shield seasons (2013-2015). Since his international debuts in ODI and T20Is in 2015, consistent performances have made him a permanent fixture in the national team. In 59 T20I matches, he has scored 940 runs at a stunning strike rate of 145.1. In 70 ODI matches, he has scored 1487 runs with the bat at a striking rate of 95.00. Consistent performances earned Stoinis the prestigious Australia’s ODI cricketer of the year award in 2018-19 and made him a key member of the World Cup 2019 squad.

The Australian all-rounder of Greek descent showed the world why he rightfully deserved a slot in the Australian middle-order by making significant contributions to Australia’s victorious campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.

In the Super-12 game against South Africa team, Stoinis joined hands with wicket-keeper Mathew Wade and scored a vital 24 off 16 balls to stitch a 40-run unbeaten stand and take Australia past the South African total of 118 with 24 balls to spare.

He then repeated these heroics with Wade in the semi-final against Pakistan team, helping chase a target of 177 when the Aussies were down and out at 96 for 5. Stoinis scored 40 not out off 31 balls and Wade held firm at the other end scoring 41 off 17 balls.

Stoinis’s name has been announced in the 18-member Australia squad vying for a sixth world cup crown in 2023, with plenty of expectations riding on his shoulders.
