Lockie Ferguson Indian Premier League Career
When Gujarat Titans (GT) picked Lockie Ferguson for Rs 10 crores in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auctions, it was evident that they saw his potential as a match-winner. There's no doubt that Lockie is a genuine fast bowler who can bowl at 150 kmph to trouble any batting lineup.
Despite all his talent, Lockie's performance in the IPL from 2017 to 2020 could have been more impressive. He played in just 14 matches in this duration and took 11 wickets. Only in the IPL 2021 did Lockie show his worth playing for Kolkata Knight Riders.
In the eight IPL matches he played in 2021, Ferguson took 13 wickets. More than anything else, he showed that he was not willing to compromise on his pace. He was regularly bowling 150km/h deliveries to trouble the batters.
Lockie said in an interview that he likes to play the "enforcer" role and would also like to become a more rounded bowler. In IPL 2022, several franchisees were eager to grab him, requiring GT to pay a mammoth sum of Rs 10 crores to pick him for their team. Ferguson proved to be instrumental in GT's maiden season. He took 12 wickets in 13 games, with an economy rate of 8.95 and a best of 4 for 27. In the final match, he bowled the fastest ball of the season, measured at 157.3kph, to Jos Buttler.
Lockie Ferguson IPL Auction Summary
Lockie made his IPL debut way back in 2017 when Rising Pune Supergiant paid Rs 50 lakhs for him. Then, he was a part of KKR for 2019-2021, when he was paid Rs 1.6 crore a year. KKR did not make him play in all the matches, and it seemed that he was not getting his due from KKR in all these years.
In IPL 2022 auctions, four franchises aggressively tried to grab Lockie. Finally, Gujarat Titans got him for Rs 10 crores. In IPL 2023, GT has decided to trade him with Kolkata Knight Riders. As a result, Ferguson's acquisition brings him back to the squad he was a part of between 2019 and 2021. Now he is part of the RCB team. RCB pick Lockie Ferguson at a base price of 2 crores. His fans are eager to see him deliver big-time in this season of IPL.
